Leaving Dominican Republic – goodbye Cabarete

See you again some time…

This 2 months has gone by so quick!!

There have been some beautiful sunsets.

We’ve met some good people – such as John from method lodge, who runs a kayak and SUP business. Here picking jackfruit from his garden by the river.

This is Kelly, an Australian living in DR, with her cafe and honey business. Where you can get superb breakfast bowls and iced coffee, meet other expats, and have plenty of chat and advice on the area.

This was also how we met Francesca and Dee,

and went to Francesca’s birthday bash.

Along with Ellie and Duncan, and Honi – who were a riot.

This is our friend Chad, from Montana, a crazy kiter, foiler, paraglider and all-round nice guy.

Of course it was also lovely to see Mark and Anna a few times – our fellow globe trotters, and homeless wind addicts.

One of our favourite bars – where they make the perfect Mojito. There are many bars and restaurants to choose from in Cabarete, it has a vibrant social scene and a diverse culinary experience. Something for everyone! There are bachata and salsa dance classes offered in the afternoons by some club/restaurants.

It’s a really colourful place..

I love all the frescos on the road sides

These were in between Cabarete and Sosua.

I decided to get my hair cut here. It is easier to manage shorter, especially when we are in the sea every day. I think hairdresser Anna did a good job.

We found these old classic American cars at the Catalina restaurant, along with fab food.

We’ve had some long, moonlit walks back along the beach.

Paul eats the moon!!

Paul had some kite foiling lessons while in Cabarete. It is a different discipline and requies another skill level so it feels like starting back at the beginning again.

Paul did really well and you can see that he mastered taxi-ing out to the reef.

We kited nearly every day while in Cabarete. The water is warm, we were mere steps away from the water, and the wind was consistent. All perfect ingredients for a really good kiting experience.

We have loved staying at Cabarete – it isn’t a modern town, but it is authentic and welcoming. It has a very laid back, un-polished feel, with lots of cafes, little local shops and a vibrant beach-side nightlife. There are big waves so it’s not particularly good for swimming but it is excellent for water sports.

We would definitely come back again.
