En-route to the DR via Toronto

We spent a lovely 9 days back in the UK visiting family, and staying with friends in Exeter, before setting off again on our travels.

Thanks Gordon and Juliette for putting up with us.

No direct flights to Cabarete meant a layover in Toronto, Canada, before continuing on to Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic.

I had booked an air bnb just 11 minutes drive from the airport, so we grabbed a taxi and arrived approx 5pm.

We hadn’t actually planned to do anything much that evening but Paul wanted to check out the CN Tower.

So we booked an uber which arrived about 10 minutes later! So much cheaper and quicker than a taxi!

Downtown Toronto is a sight to behold, it’s absolutely massive!

Toronto was hot – about 30 degrees – and we hit rush hour but our uber driver was unfazed and informative. Though in the 6 years of living there he had never been up to the Tower’s viewing platform.

In April 1975 it was officially the world’s tallest built structure.

Despite the time of day it was crowded – we queued for a good 45 mins for the lift.

It was well worth the wait – awesome views over the immense city!

The skyscrapers just went on and on… with lakes as big as oceans.

Looking atmospheric under this moody sky.

Paul leaning out over the edge – and a smaller inner city airport, with planes arriving virtually every 2 minutes.

There was also a glass bottomed section of floor, where you can capture the tiny activity down below. Or use the mirrors above for a more convoluted experience. I liked the video fireworks behind 😁

We wandered down to the Queens Quay for food and drink…

..where everything is happening on the water, including a tall ship sailing by, and people arriving via big boats.

We even saw some kites on the far side.

Another uber back to the 4th floor flat, before booking an early morning uber to get back to the airport, and our ongoing journey.

We are defo fans of uber – but absolutely can’t wait to revisit Toronto!
