DR – day trip to Sosua beach

We caught a guagua (local bus) to Sosua beach this day, which is about a 20 minute bus ride from Cabarete.

You can catch these buses from almost anywhere along the main road if you stick your hand out for the driver. If they pass, it will only be because it is completely full!!

They are a very economical way to get around in Dominican Republic – they can sometimes be cramped – but it depends how desperate you are to get out of the sun…

We then had a 10 minute walk to the beach. This road is lined with little shops selling beachy stuff for tourists, and bars for refreshments.

Sosua is a horseshoe-shaped bay with a wide, sandy beach lined with trees offering shade.

Of course, being part of the Caribbean, the water is gloriously warm and crystal clear.

We paid for a an umbrella and sun loungers on the beach – which you will need as the sun and sand are deadly hot.

The beach is popular for swimming, snorkeling, and various water sports.

Lining the back of the beach, under the shade of trees, are a host of fast food outlets.

You have to be prepared for vendors offering various services and items along the beach.  We had some delicious prawns. Others sold lychees, mandarins, sweets, and deep-fried sweet or savoury pasteles. Some simply stand and ask for money.

Sosua beach provides a relaxing contrast to the busyness of Kite Beach.

When here previously, we did a snorkeling boat tour, which was great 👍
